CHARLESTON, West Virginia — A Charleston man has been cleared of charges stemming from a logging operation in a Kanawha County park after the 2012 derecho.
A Kanawha County Circuit Court jury found 50-year-old David Russell Bowen not guilty of wrongful injury to timber, destruction of property and obtaining by false pretenses.
Kanawha County had hired Bowen's company, Russell Trucking, to remove debris from Coonskin Park after the derecho. He was accused of taking hundreds of trees in the park and cutting and selling timber.
Bowen said he had permission to cut trees in the park.
Bowen told media outlets after the verdict Wednesday he never felt he did anything wrong and is "glad that justice has been done."
