PROVO, Utah — A Utah sheriff's deputy who was shot in the head testified Thursday in the trial of a teenager accused of driving her boyfriend during a 50-mile crime spree that left another deputy dead.

Utah County Sheriff's Deputy Greg Sherwood said in court Thursday that when he caught up to Meagan Grunwald and her 27-year-old boyfriend during the January 2014 chase, he was scared and angry because he knew Sgt. Cory Wride had been fatally shot.

Grunwald,18, faces a dozen charges that could put her in prison for the rest of her life if she's found guilty.

Prosecutors say that while she didn't pull the trigger, Grunwald was a willing accomplice in the crime spree.

But defense attorney Dean Zabriskie says her boyfriend, who was fatally shot after the chase, forced her to participate at gunpoint.
