LEDBETTER, Kentucky — Crews have started taking apart by hand the Old Ledbetter Bridge in western Kentucky.
WPSD-TV in Paducah reported (http://bit.ly/1rBStqO ) that crews finished sawing apart the decking of the three main spans on Wednesday and have moved on to jack-hammering along the edges
Once the concrete is loose, crews will use a machine to take out the decking.
The contractor is still waiting for the U.S. Coast Guard's approval of the full demolition plan. Once it is approved, the contractor will be able to give a timetable for the ongoing demolition work.
As part of a $5.6 million contract, the contractor has to remove the bridge by Dec. 1.
