WATERTOWN, South Dakota — Some hearty souls in Watertown plan to jump into the water at Stokes-Thomas Lake City Park on Saturday in the Polar Plunge for Special Olympics South Dakota.
It was re-scheduled because of frigid temperatures earlier in February.
Several South Dakota cities already have hosted polar plunges, including Brandon, Chamberlain, Rapid City and Spearfish.
Places that plan to hold them this spring or next fall include Huron, Pierre, Vermillion, Madison, Mitchell, Sioux Falls, Mobridge, Aberdeen, Yankton and Brookings.
The Polar Plunge is an annual fundraiser done by South Dakota law enforcement that benefits Special Olympics. More than 1,700 people took the plunge last year and raised over $470,000.
