COLUMBUS, Ohio — A new poll shows Ohio Gov. John Kasich (KAY'-sik)has a wide lead over Democratic challenger Ed FitzGerald, but down-ticket Democratic candidates remain competitive.
The new Buckeye Poll, which was conducted just before Labor Day by the Ray C. Bliss Institute of Applied Politics at the University of Akron, shows Republican Kasich ahead of FitzGerald 46 percent to 27 percent. Twenty-three percent of respondents were undecided and 4 percent favored other candidates.
A July Quinnipiac (KWIHN'-uh-pee-ak) University poll showed Kasich was ahead of FitzGerald 48 percent to 36 percent.
The survey of 600 registered voters has a margin-of-error of 4 percentage points.
