FREDERICK, Maryland — A lawyer who said she was fired by the former Board of County Commissioners for political retribution is now back on staff.
The Frederick News-Post (http://bit.ly/1I6u1ah ) reported Wednesday that the county rehired Wendy Kearney on May 1 as a senior assistant county attorney as part of a settlement agreement in a wrongful termination case.
Kearney had filed a January 2014 complaint in court against the former board over her 2011 firing. Kearney said she was fired after 21 years because she had defended the county on land-use and development issues that were against the interests of the backers who she said helped get the board elected.
In court filings, the board said that Kearney's position was eliminated not out of retribution, but as a way to save money.
