SPRINGFIELD, Massachusetts — A Springfield man charged with a fatal hit and run involving a bicyclist will face trial because a plea deal is not anticipated.

The prosecutor and defense attorney told a Superior Court judge Monday they expect the trial of Adam Thurber to take three days.

The Republican (http://bit.ly/1EcjBTA ) reports that authorities allege Thurber was driving his pickup truck at about 70 miles per hour at about 3 a.m. on Jan. 1, 2014 when he struck bicyclist Derek Russell. Russell was pronounced dead at the scene.

Prosecutors say pieces of the bicycle were found almost a mile way.

Thurber has pleaded not guilty to charges including motor vehicle homicide. He is being held on $100,000 bail.

His lawyer wants the judge to exclude the prosecution's expert's opinion regarding Thurber's speed.
