EVANSVILLE, Indiana — Evansville tourism officials say they're excited that financing is now in place for a $60 million downtown convention hotel following a series of scuttled plans.

Financing closed Friday for the project that includes a 240-room Hilton DoubleTree and a parking garage that will be shared with the new Indiana University School of Medicine-Evansville campus.

The project spearheaded by developer HCW will be built by Hunt Construction, and road closures signaling the start of construction could occur within days.

Supporters say the hotel is needed to boost Evansville's convention business, which has declined since the former Executive Inn shut down six years ago and was later demolished.

Evansville Convention & Visitors Bureau Director Laura Libs tells the Evansville Courier & Press (http://bit.ly/1LJhHxK ) "this is what we've been waiting for."
