NEWARK, New Jersey — Two men were killed and another was hospitalized following separate shootings in Newark.

But authorities say it doesn't appear that the incidents are connected.

Essex County prosecutors say the first shooting occurred around 10:15 p.m. Friday in the 100 block of Riverside Avenue.

Police officers responding to reports of shots fired found 18-year-old city resident Tyquil Whitehead wounded in the street. He was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead a short time later.

The second shooting occurred shortly before 2 a.m. Saturday in the 200 block of Elizabeth Avenue, when two men were shot outside a restaurant. Thirty-three-year-old Napolean Williams of Newark was pronounced dead at the scene, while another man was wounded and taken to a hospital, where he was in stable condition.
