LONG BEACH, California — A Long Beach police officer has shot and killed a man who was armed with a knife during a confrontation.
Police said the officer went to a house Friday to look for a runaway girl and found her with a man with whom she had a relationship. A restraining order barred the suspect from having contact with the teenage girl, police said, and the pair had multiple domestic violence cases on file.
The officer fired at the man when an argument broke out and the man armed himself with a knife.
The man was pronounced dead at the scene. His name has not been released.
Los Angeles County prosecutors will conduct an independent investigation of the shooting.
