KNOXVILLE, Tennessee — A federal appeals court has turned down a second hearing before the full court for a Tennessee judge convicted of bought drugs.

The U.S. 6th Circuit Court of Appeals in Cincinnati issued an order on Friday turning away former Knox County Criminal Court Judge Richard Baumgartner. He was convicted in October 2012 of five charges of lying to cover up his purchase of prescription painkillers from a mistress.

The Knoxville News Sentinel reported (http://bit.ly/1pbR6PZ ) that the court's order stated that despite the 2-1 decision issued in September, the remaining panel members believe the case was properly decided.

Baumgartner's drug abuse while on the bench led to new trials for two suspects in the high-profile murder of a young Knoxville couple in 2007. Both were convicted again..
