30-year-old Butte man dies in single-vehicle wreck on remote Madison County road

BUTTE, Montana — A 30-year-old Butte man has died in in a single-vehicle wreck on a remote Madison County road south of Whitehall.

The Montana Highway Patrol says Michael Lee Brown-Silva was driving a car early Saturday when it failed to negotiate a curve, struck an embankment and overturned into an irrigation ditch.

The Montana Standard reports (http://bit.ly/1ICxQAL ) the ditch had about 4 feet of water.

A 29-year-old female passenger, also of Butte, swam from the vehicle and walked 2 miles to find help. She escaped without injuries.

But Brown-Silva was found in the driver's seat in the vehicle when the state Highway Patrol arrived around 2:45 a.m.

The accident remains under investigation.
