BALTIMORE — Baltimore Police say a man was killed and an officer was injured during an exchange of gunfire in northwest Baltimore.
Department spokesman T.J. Smith said at a news conference Wednesday night that two officers were working on Oakmont Avenue about 7:45 p.m. when they encountered a man with a gun.
Smith says the man shot at the officers, hitting one of them in the leg. At least one officer returned fire, Smith says, and the man was shot and killed. Police recovered the man's weapon in the scene.
The injured officer, a 5-year veteran of the department, was taken to Shock Trauma, Smith says, and is in stable condition.
