Tucson police: Man fatally shot by officers Saturday was involved in homicide the night before

TUCSON, Arizona — Police in Tucson say the man who died in an officer-involved shooting last Saturday night was involved in a homicide the night before at the same location.

They say 29-year-old Armando Serrano Jr. fatally shot 26-year-old Richard Fries at a mobile home park Friday night.

Less than 24 hours later, authorities were called back to the mobile home park when a man and woman were spotted standing around the scene of the Fries shooting.

When officers approached the two, they say the man later identified as Serrano suddenly tried running away.

Police say gunfire was exchanged between the suspect and two officers.

Serrano was shot multiple times and died at the scene. No officers were injured.

Police say they identified Serrano with the help of forensic evidence and witness statements.
