POPLARVILLE, Mississippi — Poplarville attorney Martin T. Smith, who served 20 years in the state Senate and 30 years as lawyer for Pearl River Community College Board of Trustees, has died at his home. He was 80.
Pearl River Community College announced Smith died Thursday.
Funeral arrangements are pending.
Smith also worked as attorney for the city of Poplarville for the past 24 years. He also served as the first administrative director of the Administrative Office of Courts from 1993 to 1997.
Smith graduated from Pearl River in 1954. He earned the bachelor's and law degrees from the University of Mississippi and opened his law practice in Poplarville.
He served as the first chairman of the PRCC Development Foundation.
Survivors include his wife, Dolores; a son and three grandsons.
