PHOENIX — Authorities say the owner of a Glendale petting zoo is accused of animal abuse after a pony he was transporting fell out of a makeshift trailer and was dragged by its neck.

Phoenix police say 38-year-old Tyler Wade Tippets was arrested Saturday and released on his own recognizance after his initial court appearance Monday. He doesn't have a lawyer yet.

Police say Tippetts owns Tyler's Petting Zoo.

A witness told police she noticed Tippetts driving fast on Feb. 21 and the pony was sliding in the trailer that had no back gate.

The witness says the pony was dragged and still tied to the trailer before Tippets stopped.

Tippets insisted the pony wasn't hurt, but police say the pony was bloody, shaking and crying in pain. It was euthanized Sunday.
