Homeless Upstate New York man struck and killed by freight train near Rochester

ROCHESTER, New York — A freight train has struck and killed a 60-year-old homeless man in Rochester.

Rochester Police say a 33-car CSX freight train was traveling westbound toward an Amtrak station at the time of the accident. The man's body was found Sunday morning after a freight train engineer reported he may have hit two people who were walking on the tracks.

CSX police officers and Rochester Police are investigating. So far, they have not found a second victim.

The Rochester Democrat and Chronicle reports (http://on.rocne.ws/1Q5rXBe ) that few details were available about why the man was on the elevated tracks. His body was found near the overpass, which is about a half-mile from the Rochester Public Market.

Police have not released the victim's name, pending notification of his family.
