ANCHORAGE, Alaska — A 33-year-old Fairbanks man reported to be driving recklessly has died hours after crashing his vehicle.
Alaska State Troopers say James Stacy was pronounced dead at Fairbanks Memorial hospital at about 10:30 a.m. Thursday.
Troopers say that shortly after 1:30 a.m. Thursday they received a report of a reckless driver on Chena Pump Road who temporarily drove off the road. Troopers say the driver was then seen heading north on the road, swerving between both lanes of traffic.
According to troopers, officers responded but couldn't immediately find the truck. Just before 2 a.m., they were notified a crash near the road.
Troopers found the GMC in the ditch and down a steep embankment, with Stacy in the driver's seat. Troopers say the critically injured man was transported to the hospital.
