BUFFALO, New York — The list of competitors in Gov. Andrew Cuomo's contest to attract business to Buffalo has been narrowed down to 113 semifinalists.
Nearly 7,000 applicants from around the world submitted business ideas hoping to win the contest's top prize of $1 million. Cuomo announced Tuesday that a team of judges will now evaluate the semifinalists before picking 11 finalists.
Competitors were asked to propose ideas in any industry except retail and hospitality. In addition to cash prizes, winners will receive business incubator space and professional help from industry experts in exchange for a promise to keep their business in Buffalo for at least a year.
The state will also award six $500,000 prizes and four $250,000 prizes.
