GRAND RAPIDS, Michigan — Michigan's annual ArtPrize competition is expanding with more events and $220,000 in grants to boost exhibitions.

Organizers of the annual event announced the update Thursday in Grand Rapids as they prepare for its seventh year. They say the 19-day event will include ArtPrize Tonight, a series to extend ArtPrize beyond hours that venues usually were open.

ArtPrize runs Sept. 23 to Oct. 11. In addition to prizes for artists, plans call for awarding $220,000 in grants.

Artist Seed Grants, launched in 2014 with the support of the Frey Foundation, will continue. Grants will be made to create programming with artists for visiting students. And ArtPrize will introduce two new grant programs to help support venues.

Applications also are being sought for a Fellowship for Emerging Curators program.
