NEW YORK — Police say a 62-year-old construction worker fell to his death while performing repair work in New York City.

Police say the man was replacing roof gutters on a building when he fell Thursday in East Harlem.

Police were called to the scene around noon and found the worker at the back of the building. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities are investigating. The medical examiner is expected to determine his cause of death.

The New York Times reports the New York City Buildings Department has issued a stop-work order. The newspaper also says the man had been working for Thiva Contracting Company in Queens.

Authorities have not yet identified the man.
