Birmingham, Decatur, Talladega win Alabama APME awards for newspapers

ATLANTA — The Birmingham News, The Decatur Daily and The Daily Home of Talladega have won the Alabama Associated Press Media Editors awards for news sweepstakes.

The awards were presented Saturday in Atlanta.

The Tuscaloosa News, Opelika-Auburn News and the Fort Payne Times-Journal received the sports sweepstakes awards. The Dave Martin Photo Sweepstakes awards went to the Montgomery Advertiser, The Decatur Daily and the Fort Payne Times-Journal. The freedom of information awards were presented to The Huntsville Times, The Tuscaloosa News and The Birmingham News.

The Montgomery Advertiser was honored for its outstanding overall cooperation with the AP news cooperative in the state. The Decatur Daily received the outstanding member photo cooperation award.

Sweepstakes awards are based on a newspaper's overall performance in each category.
