PHILADELPHIA — Police in Philadelphia are searching for a driver who struck a pedestrian and fled the scene.

The man was hit around 3 a.m. Friday at the intersection of 5th Street and Hunting Park Avenue, in North Philadelphia.

Chief Inspector Scott Small tells WCAU-TV (http://bit.ly/1QaCL1w) several people called 911 after seeing a man lying unconscious in the street.

The 45-year-old was taken to Temple University Hospital in critical condition with severe injuries, including a fractured femur and pelvis. He also has injuries to his head and face.

Small says police are examining evidence from the scene.

The intersection was closed for several hours, but has since reopened.

Anyone with information is urged to contact police.
