Sheer Drama wins Delaware Handicap, beating Frivolous by 2 lengths

STANTON, Delaware — Harold Queen's Sheer Drama challenged pacesetter Frivolous in the second turn and shook free late for a two-length victory Saturday in the Grade 1 $750,00 Delaware Handicap.

Ridden by Joe Bravo, Sheer Drama stalked Frivolous through an open half-mile of 48.4 and six furlongs of 1:12.2. Bravo then sent Sheer Drama up outside the leader to challenge in the second turn. Sheer Drama and Frivolous dueled into the final furlong under Bravo, and Sheer Drama shook clear and was slowly pulling away at the finish.

Trained by David Fawkes, Sheer Drama returned $7 as the second choice of the field of seven fillies and mares. She ran 1 1/4 miles in 2:01.2 for her fifth victory in 18 starts. The $450,000 winner's share raised Sheer Drama's career earnings to $918,840.
