GRETNA, Louisiana — A man has been sentenced to life in prison in the 2013 killing of two Southern University students in Harvey.
The New Orleans Advocate reports (http://bit.ly/1JVrAZB) a state district judge in Gretna on Monday also denied 22-year-old Tavis Joseph a new trial.
Joseph was convicted in July of two counts of second-degree murder in the deaths of Nikiayh Westerfield and David Harrison.
Prosecutors say Joseph was one of four men who tried to rob Westerfield and Harrison after arranging to buy marijuana from them and ended up shooting into their car, killing them.
One of the four men, Irvin Harris of Harvey, was sentenced last month to life in prison for second-degree murder in the killing. Another man, Jeremy Coleman, pleaded guilty to manslaughter in connection with the incident.
