MINEOLA, New York — A Long Island teenager has pleaded not guilty to aggravated vehicular homicide in connection with a crash that killed a California man.

Deepak Kumar was in court Wednesday as prosecutors unsealed an indictment alleging he was impaired by drugs and/or alcohol during the Aug. 19 collision.

SirPierre Antoine of Richmond, California, was killed in the crash in New Hyde Park. His wife and daughter were injured.

Defense attorney Jan Goldman tells Newsday (http://nwsdy.li/1mu9QbE ) Kumar was sorry for the Antoine family's loss but added "We feel this is just an accident."

He said his client was not impaired by alcohol. Goldman says prosecutors alleged Kumar used marijuana and they were awaiting lab test results.

Antoine was visiting his ill mother at the time of the crash.
