SEVERNA PARK, Maryland — Authorities in say a Severna Park woman and her 11-year-old son are dead after a fire at their home.

Anne Arundel County fire department spokesman Capt. Russ Davies said the fire broke out around 1:45 a.m. Monday at a home in the 100 block of Benfield Road.

Davies says when firefighters arrived they found heavy fire in the rear of the rancher style home. When they searched the home, firefighters found two people in a front bedroom. They were pronounced dead at the scene.

Davies says they were identified as 44-year-old Pauline Naylor and her son, 11-year-old William Burnapp III.

It took about 40 firefighters 30 minutes to control the blaze. Davies says damage is estimated at $250,000. The cause is under investigation.
