TYLER, Texas — A man convicted in the death of a woman caught in gang crossfire while at an East Texas park with her 3-year-old son has been sentenced to life in prison.

Twenty-year-old Dennis Bendy was sentenced Thursday. He was found guilty of murder Aug. 12 for his role in the death of 20-year-old Briana Young last year at Tyler's P.T. Cole Park.

During the trial, co-defendant and fellow gang member Rakheem "Boobie" Goldstein said Bendy drove up on one side of the park and began firing while fellow gang member Elisha Williams crossed the park firing at a rival gang member.

Testimony showed it was a bullet fired from Williams' gun that hit Young. But a prosecutor said Bendy fired blindly into the crowded park.

Williams and Goldstein await their trials.
