LAFAYETTE, Louisiana — The alleged key figure in a bribery scheme that rocked the district attorney's office in Lafayette has pleaded guilty to three of the nine charges for which he was indicted in 2013.

The Advertiser report (http://bit.ly/1HmOnKw ) Robert Williamson, of Lafayette, a former private investigator, signed a plea agreement Monday in which he admitted guilt to one count each of conspiracy, bribery and Social Security fraud.

According to court documents, Williamson received at least $443,000 from clients to help them facilitate the quick resolution of misdemeanor and felony charges, mostly drunk driving charges but also drug cases. Some of the money was used for the clients' fines, penalties and other expenses.
