TUPELO, Mississippi — The National Weather Service said Friday that an EF-1 tornado touched down in Chickasaw County as a line of thunderstorms crossed the state.

WTVA-TV reports (http://bit.ly/1kxcNAQ ) it happened about 10:30 p.m. Thursday, about four miles northwest of Okolona and left a three mile path from near the intersection of CR 413 and 135 to about a mile west of Okolona near Highway 32.

The tornado uprooted and snapped several trees along its path. Two homes suffered considerable damage from fallen trees.

Meteorologist John Dolusic says the tornado's wind speeds approached 95 mph. The tornado was 200 yards wide and traveled for close to three miles.

Forecaster Daniel Lamb at the weather service's Jackson office said straight line winds, estimated at 60 mph, brought down trees along Interstate 55 in northern Lincoln County and a tree fell on a home in Brookhaven.

There were no injuries reported in either event.
