PIERRE, South Dakota — The state Department of Agriculture says it's taking nominations for the 2016 South Dakota Governor's Ag Ambassador Award.
The agency says nominations are due by Feb. 29.
Jodi Bechard is a department projects coordinator. She says nominees should be people who have labored to promote agriculture in the state.
The person chosen is expected to provide leadership to the state's agricultural industry to help it grow, support responsible stewardship of livestock and land, highlight the significance of South Dakota agriculture to the global food system and influence decision makers on sound agricultural policies.
The award will be presented in June at the Governor's Agricultural Summit in Brookings.
The 2015 ambassador was Bob Thaler of Brookings. He has been a professor and swine specialist for 26 years.
