JACKSON, Mississippi — A former administrative assistant at Meridian Community College has been arrested after staff detected missing funds.

The State Auditor's Office says a Lauderdale County grand jury indicted Sandra Gail Young on embezzlement charges. She also was served with a demand for $202,919 — the amount allegedly misappropriated by Young from August 2008 through February.

State Auditor Stacey Pickering, in a news release Monday, said based upon the evidence developed during the investigation, Young used her position to create and submit false documents which allowed her to embezzle public funds from her employer.

Young had worked at MCC from 1990 until February of this year.

It was unknown if she had an attorney who could comment on the case. Bond information was not immediately available.
