ROEBUCK, South Carolina — Spartanburg County sheriff's deputies are investigating the shooting death of a man at a home in Roebuck.

The coroner's office said 56-year-old Richard Linn Humphries died at Spartanburg Medical Center on Tuesday afternoon.

Sheriff's Lt. Kevin Bobo said Humphries got into a dispute with a woman in the house. She told deputies she shot Humphries because he had assaulted her.

Bobo says the gun the woman used was found a neighbor's home, where she had gone to call authorities. He said investigators discovered Humphries was holding a gun before he was shot.

Bobo says investigators talked with the woman and after meeting with prosecutors, it appears she acted in self-defense.

Her name has not been released and no charges have been filed.
