Cranston police officer suing city, mayor over harassment accusations in line for promotion

CRANSTON, Rhode Island — A police captain who is suing Cranston's mayor and other city officials is in line for a promotion and with the mayor's help.

The Providence Journal reports ( ) that Capt. Todd Patalano, who is suing the city, mayor and some past and present co-workers over harassment accusations, has been appointed major. The City Council must ratify his promotioin.

Patalano accuses Mayor Allan W. Fung and co-workers of targeting him in a personal vendetta by Chief Marco Palombo Jr. Patalano said he was falsely and repeatedly charged with violations of police regulations.

In a claim before the lawsuit, Patalano demanded about $5.4 million in damages, legal fees and expenses. Fung to denounced Patalano for what he called greed and making an outrageous claim that would hurt taxpayers.
