CHARLESTON, West Virginia — A state forestry official says forest fires have burned about 600 acres across West Virginia.

Division of Forestry fire specialists Jeremy Jones tells WCHS-TV ( ) that six fires were burning Wednesday in Wayne, Kanawha, Boone and Lincoln counties.

The National Weather Service says there's an increased risk of forest fires in the Eastern Panhandle on Thursday afternoon because of strong winds and low humidity.
