NEW ORLEANS — The Orleans Parish Sheriff's Office says an inmate facing drug and weapons charges has died at a hospital after being revived in the jail.

Sheriff's office spokesman Philip Stelly says the man's name won't be released until his family is notified.

He says the man was booked Thursday and put under medical care for opiate detoxification immediately after telling jail staff about his medical problems.

Stelly says the man was unresponsive during a medical check Friday but prison staff revived him. He says the man was then moved to Interim LSU Hospital, where he died about 7:40 p.m. Saturday.

Stelly says the coroner's office will perform an autopsy.
