Man hurt in fall from Catawba Falls in western North Carolina

OLD FORT, North Carolina — A man has been hurt after falling from Catawba Falls in McDowell County.

WLOS-TV reported (http://bit.ly/1Kr5mbI) a man in his 30s slipped from the rock face around 11 a.m. Sunday and fell about 30 feet after bouncing off other rocks.

It took emergency medical crews about three hours to get the man to safety. EMS director William Kehler said the area was very remote and the terrain was very rugged at the waterfall.

Kehler says the man was airlifted to Mission Hospital in Asheville with injuries that were not thought to be life threatening. His name has not been released.
