Woman dies after being found face-down and unresponsive in Lake Lanier

GAINESVILLE, Georgia — A woman has died after being found floating and face-down near a boat dock on Lake Lanier.

Hall County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Nicole Bailes says family members pulled the woman from the water on Sunday afternoon and tried to resuscitate her until an emergency crew arrived. She was pronounced dead at Northeast Georgia Medical Center.

Hall County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Nicole Bailes identified the woman as 61-year-old Susan Button of Buford. Bailes tells The Times (http://bit.ly/1IeCgOr) that Button had been with other family members preparing for a day on the lake with their boat.

The incident occurred near a residential area on a cove of Lake Lanier, about five miles north of downtown Gainesville.

Bailes said authorities are investigating how she ended up in the lake and an autopsy was planned.
