PRAIRIEVILLE, Louisiana — State police say the mother of Baton Rouge state Sen. Dan Claitor has died after she was injured in a Saturday crash in Ascension Parish.

Trooper Jared Sandifer says 80-year-old Nancy M. Claitor, of Baton Rouge, died at Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center shortly before midnight Wednesday.

Dan Claitor is a Baton Rouge Republican and also a candidate for the 6th Congressional District.

Troopers say Nancy Claitor was in the right-hand lane of Airline Highway and changed to the left lane to make a U-turn, but she slowed to a near stop.

Investigators say a pickup ran into the back of Claitor's SUV.

Claitor's husband and front seat passenger, 88-year-old Robert Claitor, was taken to the hospital after the crash but had minor injuries.
