Deputy responding to reports of a prowler shoots, kills suspect at Hawaiian Gardens home


HAWAIIAN GARDENS, California — Los Angeles County sheriff's officials say a deputy responding to reports of a prowler shot and killed a suspect outside a home in Hawaiian Gardens.

Officials say a resident called authorities reporting someone trying to get into the house late Sunday.

A deputy arrived and confronted a man in the home's backyard.

KABC-TV reports (http://bit.ly/1J0iCTV ) the deputy fired one shot, striking the suspect once. He died at the scene. His name has not been released.

Officials did not say what prompted the deputy to open fire. KABC says no weapons were recovered.

The incident is under investigation.

No deputies were hurt.
