SEATTLE — A man who has been locked up as a sex predator pleaded guilty Thursday to murder in a cold case homicide from 1980 in Bellevue.

The King County prosecutor's office says 58-year-old Michael Allan Halgren faces a sentence of at least 17 years in prison. And, if he's ever granted parole he would be returned to the Special Commitment Center on McNeil Island.

A DNA sample linked Halgren to the slaying of Susan Barbara Lowe who was 19 when she was strangled 34 years ago in her apartment.

Halgren was convicted of kidnapping and raping another Bellevue woman in 1989 and was committed in 2002 as a sex predator.
