JACKSONVILLE, Florida — The Obama administration's top health official is heading to Florida where insurance sign-ups under the Affordable Care Act have been robust.

Health and Human Services Secretary Sylvia M. Burwell will hold a news conference in Jacksonville on Friday.

Nearly 1.3 million Floridians have signed up for health insurance through the federal marketplace as of Jan. 16.

Federal health officials said that figure also includes some of the nearly 1 million that signed up last year who are renewing their insurance this year, as well as first time enrollees.

The second enrollment period ends Feb. 15. Those who don't sign up during that time may have to wait until next year.

Florida has one of the highest uninsured rates in the country and led the way in enrollment last year among the states using healthcare.gov.
