MEDINA, Ohio — A veteran reporter and editor from the Akron Beacon Journal has been named managing editor at The Medina Gazette in northeastern Ohio.

The Gazette ( ) says Lawrence Pantages is taking over for David Knox. Knox has led the newspaper since 2012.

The 59-year-old Pantages started at the Beacon Journal in 1972. He started as a sports writer and later wrote about business news before moving into newsroom management.

In Akron, he served as deputy business news editor, deputy sports editor, sports editor, business news editor and national editor.

The Gazette has a daily circulation of about 12,000.
