CLEMSON, South Carolina — A charge has been upgraded against a North Carolina man accused in the vandalism to Howard's Rock inside Clemson University's football stadium.

Prosecutor Walt Wilkins said in a release Wednesday that 20-year-old Micah Rogers of Pisgah Forest, North Carolina, is now charged with grand larceny and malicious injury to property valued at more than $10,000.

Police say the rock, which players rub before running onto the field, was chipped in June 2013 and its protective casing was destroyed.

Rogers originally faced trespassing and malicious injury to property between $2,000 and $10,000. Wilkins said investigators determined the damage to Howard's Rock and the chipped piece are valued more than $10,000.

No trial date has been set. It wasn't immediately clear if Rogers has an attorney.
