BROCKTON, Massachusetts — The victim of a deadly hit-and-run in Brockton is being remembered by his friends as a big man with a big heart.
Authorities say Carlevan Yancey was struck as he crossed busy Belmont Street at about 9:30 p.m. Sunday. Yancey would have turned 32 on Thursday and worked at a nearby supermarket.
The impact knocked off the victim's shoes. He was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Police are reviewing surveillance video from area businesses but did not immediately release a description of the vehicle. They said it likely had extensive front-end damage.
Friend Matthew Swenson says Yancey would be hard to miss. "How do you miss someone that's 6-6 and 300 pounds? There's lights everywhere," he told WCVB-TV.
Relatives urged the driver to come forward.
