HONOLULU — A 43-year-old man suspected of knocking down a police officer with a car while fleeing has been charged with terroristic threatening, attempted assault and assault of a police officer.

The Honolulu Star-Advertiser (http://bit.ly/1qh7fAi) reports Derek Torres called police Saturday and was arrested at Pearlridge Center.

Prosecutors say Torres and another man on Aug. 12 were hoping to sell a gold ring to a pawnshop and were cutting it up in a car outside a Pearl City convenience store.

Prosecutors say police Lt. Stacey Kapeliela determined the car was stolen, approached the car, opened the driver's side, to out his gun and told the driver to get out.

The driver accelerated in reverse. The open car door knocked Kapeliela down and his gun fired as he fell. He suffered cuts and bruises.
