CASPER, Wyoming — The ownership of a proposed 46-turbine wind farm near Glenrock has changed hands.
sPower acquired the interest in the planned 80-megawatt Pioneer Wind Park from Wasatch Wind in early August. Financial terms were not disclosed.
The Casper Star-Tribune reports (http://bit.ly/1IvYnN7 ) that Salt Lake City-based sPower is the operator of more than 150 projects across the United States and United Kingdom. The company has another 1.7 gigawatts of power in the planning and construction phase.
But Glenrock wind farm faces well-financed opposition from area residents who say the facility will mar the landscape and increase electric bills for ratepayers.
The Northern Laramie Range Alliance has challenged the turbines in court, slowing the project down.
The wind farm will cost an estimated $120 million to $145 million to put up.
