ASTORIA, Oregon — The Coast Guard says a helicopter crew from Astoria, Oregon, has medevaced an ailing 51-year-old man from a German-flagged container ship 70 miles off the Oregon coast.

A Coast Guard spokesman in Seattle said the helicopter crew transported the man Friday to waiting medics, who took him to an Astoria hospital. The man had symptoms of appendicitis. He's reported in stable condition.

The rescue was a little tricky because of heavy fog.
