BENNINGTON, Vermont — Two people have died and a third person has been seriously injured in a collision in Bennington, Vermont.

The accident happened Monday night. Police said 36-year-old Jamie Sorel of Bennington tried to pass a tractor trailer on a curve on Route 7 and hit another car head-on.

Sorel and the other driver, 26-year-old Danny Thomas of Pownal, were pronounced dead at the scene.

Thomas' passenger, 19-year-old Tori Green, was hospitalized.

Police say alcohol was a factor in the crash. It was believed Sorel was traveling at an excessive speed and attempted to pass the truck in a no-passing zone.
