HUNTINGTON BEACH, California — Huntington Beach police say an officer fatally shot a 27-year-old man who had been driving recklessly and then confronted police with a gun in hand.
City News Service reports that the coroner's office identified the deceased driver as Daniel Walsh of Huntington Beach.
Lt. Kent Ferrin says police were informed that a driver in an SUV was running people off the road at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday.
When an officer tried to stop the vehicle, the driver got into a minor crash, stopped and got out of the vehicle wielding a handgun.
The suspect then walked up a driveway of a residence and instead of following an order to drop the weapon turned toward the officer while still holding the gun.
The officer opened fire, striking the suspect.
